On May 15, 1970, the Eta Gamma Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity, Incorporated, received its National Charter. The Eta Gamma charter was signed by Ernest N. Morial, (1929 – 1989) former mayor of New Orleans (1978-1986) and Past General President of Alpha Phi Alpha (1968-1972).
